Sophie Kilburn is a Derbyshire born indie rock singer, songwriter. Her bold sonic fusion of old-school rocker & modern pop warrior is inspired by genre shifting heroes like Boygenius, HAIM and PJ Harvey with a heavy emphasis on lyrics & storytelling. From releasing “alt-indie banger” (Fame Magazine) Indigo Fever and “driving pop-anthem” (Complex UK) Broke, Sophie has received global recognition as an “undeniable songwriting talent” (XS Noize), as well as backing from BBC Introducing and Mahogany Sessions. Sophie soon followed with her stripped back & intimate single Call Home, premiering in Clash as "something special", leading to her playing Amazing Radio's virtual CMJ Festival alongside Declan McKenna, Beabadoobee and Wolf Alice, plus being named 'Best of 2020' by Chalk Pit Records. In 2021, Sophie released her debut EP My Room Made Public, digging emotionally deep to question how much of our lives should we really share? The project included driving indie-pop banger ‘Movements’ that featured on Flux FM (Berlin) New Music Radar Show and Get In Her Ears (Hoxton Radio) as their ‘one to watch’. The project received high praise across the board from being backed by Amazing Radio UK and US, to being called ‘truly a one to watch’ by 1883 and Lock Magazine alongside Rag n Bone Man and Charlie XCX, to BBC Introducing, naming Ruthless and I’m In Love With My Therapist as ‘Track of the Week’ by the East Midlands Team, resulting in a “mesmerising” live session for BBC Radio Derby. Renowned BBC DJ Presenter, Dean Jackson, has hailed Sophie ‘as an artist to get excited about’, with Right Chord Music crowning her as their ‘Breakthrough Act’. In early autumn 2023, Sophie released three singles off her upcoming second EP Not Bitter, Just Bored, self-love and reflective anthem 'Afterthought' and emotionally intelligent fuck you song for masses, '20%'. 'Afterthought' premiered in Notion as an “effortlessly catchy track that transforms dark memories into classic pop catharsis”. The single also charted in Amazing Pop and was featured in the New Female Voices on Amazing Radio UK/US. 20% landed East Midlands BBC Introducing Track of Week being called ‘a phenomenal track’. The full EP dropped late 2023 alongside a sold out launch show at The Grace, London. The EP was again praised by BBC Introducing landing three Track of the Weeks's, playlisted on the Student Union Network's top pick list, as well as featured in The Independent ‘Now Hear This’ alongside Maggie Rogers & Rina Sawayama. After releasing the ‘Not Bitter Just Bored’ EP project, focus track 'Love Condition' gained Apple Music Editorial Support, as well as traction from the Student Music Network being hailed for its 'originality and cool edgy vocals & songwriting' with the music video gaining UK/US VEVO playlisting alongside Wet Leg and Ellie Dixon. Sophie kicked off 2023 with the opening of the Access All Areas series curated by John Kennedy at Radio X, leading to a live Radio X session where John Kennedy hailed her ‘as an amazing singer, an amazing songwriter’. Live Sophie has supported the likes of Declan McKenna, Steven Page & Moa Moa plus Shirley Collins MBE at Camden Roundhouse. Sophie has recently supported Melyn on their UK Tour, as well as Mia Wray (BBC Radio 1) and Lily Lyons (BBC 6 Music) plus headlined Sebright Arms in London.
